Follicular Study

Follicular Study

introduction

A follicular study is a simple and non-invasive procedure used to track the growth and development of ovarian follicles, which are small sacs in the ovaries that contain a woman’s eggs. This study is an essential part of fertility treatment and helps in understanding the ovulation process, which is crucial for couples trying to conceive.

Why is a Follicular Study Done?

The primary purpose of a follicular study is to monitor the size and development of follicles to predict when they will release an egg (ovulation). This information is critical for timing intercourse or other fertility treatments like Intrauterine Insemination (IUI) or In Vitro Fertilization (IVF).

How is the Procedure Done?

The study is conducted using a transvaginal ultrasound. The doctor places a small probe inside the vagina to get a clear view of the ovaries and follicles. This procedure is usually done several times during the menstrual cycle, starting from the 9th or 10th day and continuing until ovulation is detected.
